All post 16 courses are supported by experienced staff in a welcoming and supportive environment.
In addition to our excellent academic standards, we offer students so much more. All students are welcomed into the Downshire School community through our fun and challenging 6th Form Induction Programme – Taking part in team building games, assault courses and climbing walls at Crawfordsburn Scout Centre.
All students are supported in careers guidance and UCAS applications. Year 13 students have a one week work placement which is essential preparation for further education and the world of work.
Students have the opportunity to achieve the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness enabling them to gain valuable skills and UCAS points. The course contributes towards university entry and provides students with a wide range of skills to enhance learning and employability.
In addition to A levels, students take part in our Pupil Mentoring and Paired Reading Programmes and a variety of enrichment opportunities including: Young Enterprise, Spanish, Counselling, Primary School Programme and Chinese Language.
We have a modern Supervised Study Area, a multifunctional room with study desks and new computers, to support pupils in their independent learning. Students can also relax and enjoy break and lunch in our new fully equipped Sixth Form Common Room.
A wide range of extra activities are offered including: Careers Guidance, Sports, Drama, Music, School Council, Interact Rotary Club, School Formal, Duke of Edinburgh and Charity Fund Raising.
The entry requirements to study at Downshire School in 6th Form comprise five GCSE passes at C grade or above, one of which must be Maths or English.
