Emphasis is placed on high quality work, academic and personal success. Each year group is divided into ability bands. Provision is made for those pupils who may benefit most from individual and small group work designed to cater for their specific needs.
Pupils’ progress is monitored by continuous assessment. This means that each topic or unit of work is assessed and the mark recorded by the teacher. In December and June of each year, major internal examinations and assessments test the complete course. Reports of pupil progress follow each set of examinations. Year Twelve pupils sit a mock examination in December as practice for the external examination at the end of Key Stage Four.
Evenings are set aside for parents to discuss reports with teachers. Following the June report, parents are invited to contact the school if they wish to arrange an interview.
