A Careers Programme is an integral part of the school curriculum. Downshire has been at the heart of piloting ‘Employability’ into years 8, 9 and 10, with our pupils responding very positively to the work presented.

Year 10 also sees the commencement of Career Planning. This process is about enabling our pupils/students to access relevant information, to develop personal knowledge and to apply this to key decision-making.

Acquiring knowledge is an important aspect of Careers Education but pupils also need to develop the skills and qualities that will assist them to fulfil their chosen goals.

The school is very appreciative of the support given to our pupils in this important area by the Careers Adviser from the Department for Employment & Learning and see them as an important member of the school’s guidance team.

School policies are available from the School Office on request.
