Thurs the 19th of November saw Downshire pupils and staff embark on a 24 hour sponsored fast to raise money for Jabulani Children’s Home, Zimbabwe. The target was set at £3000 but thanks to the dedication of our pupils who made it through the school day without food, this amount was very quickly passed and in the end, a total of £4284.23 was raised!
Downshire pupils in Key Stage 3 took part in the NSPCC Number Day on Friday 3rd December 2010. Different subjects all showed how important number skills are for real life and the Mathematics Department was involved with games and puzzles to illustrate how number work can be fun! In particular Year 10 agreed to raise money for the NSPCC and Childline Charities and so far have collected £518.
Coffee and goodies!
A very big thank you and well done to all the staff and 6th form of Downshire School for donating £350 through the MacMillan Coffee Morning at the end of September. This was not a single person’s effort but a great team effort!
It was fun time for the 6th form mentors and their mentees on the afternoon of 25th October. Under the leadership of the Senior Prefect team plus Gavin, there was much excitement in the run of the relay and the crack of falling eggs from spoons; wheelbarrows collapsed under giggles while a few cheats were discovered pretending to be oh such honest winners! And what was it all for?
