Downshire Secondary School Vs Ulidia Integrated College

The Year 10 rugby team played at Fortress Downshire against local rivals Ulidia. In perfect conditions Downshire were slow out of the trap and were 12-0 down after only 5 minutes. Up stepped Lindsay “The Beast” Carroll! Master Carroll oozed class and incredible pace but could only score 5 tries!!! Much credit must go to the piano movers Jack Beggs, Adam Craig, and Jack Brownlee who put in an incredible shift in the front row. Strong, athletic and very powerful much like their front row idol Mr Press! A superb afternoon with Downshire triumphing 33-31. Man of the Match Lindsay Carroll.

15 Boys go to Larne RFC as underdogs and 15 men return to Downshire as Heroes!

The year 10 Rugby team took up the challenge of the High Schools qualifiers and certainly rose to the occasion topping their group. Their first match pitted them against Ballyclare Secondary School where, after a sluggish start, our boys hit top gear and ran out 15-5 winners. Tries came from Curtis “The Marauder” Mealey, Lindsay “The Beast” Carroll and Robbie “The Master” McMaster. In the second game downshire beat Monkstown CHS 5-0 with the only try coming from “The Marauder” Mealey. Credit to our young men in the second game as they held their discipline and focus as the opposition slowly¬†disintegrated. It was hard to pick a man of the match but Ryan Crossan was superb. He controlled the entire game and changed the tempo and pace of it at will.
